Cycle4Change 2014
Story
Hi, I'm taking part in the annual Swan Christian College Cycle4Change Fundraiser, and along with a team of student and adult riders am hoping to raise much needed funds for the following three Swan Missions projects (with Global Development Group):
- The Kantolomba Project (J698N)
- Awareness Cambodia (J515)
- Hagar (J511)
In October we cycle over 1100km to Albany and back, and you can help change the lives of vulnerable children in Zambia and Cambodia by making a secure online donation, big or small. Just click on Donate Now and follow the prompts, leave me a message, and make a difference.
Activity
The Kantolomba Project (Global Development Group - J698N)
The Kantolomba Project seeks to empower the families of Kantolomba Village to rise out of poverty and achieve sustainable development in the areas of education, health and vocational training.
The high rate of HIV has left many children in Kantolomba orphaned and together with over 75% unemployment, many have lost hope. In response to this great need, Swan Christian College together with GDG and its partners have established a K-7 school, named by locals the Light up Ahead School, which will potentially provide food and education for over 500 children.
Construction over the past five years has resulted in six classrooms, a library and computer lab with over 1400 books and 45 laptops, offfices, storerooms, a kitchen dining area, two ablution blocks, connection to water and electricity, and a 470 metre long wall around the perimeter of the school. 155 children are presently sponsored, and we are looking for sponsors for another 50. The families in the community are extremely grateful for the support their children have recieved and a dramatic improvement has been seen in the health and wellbeing of the children involved the program.
